The Holy Spirit Wants To Speak Through You

Romans 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Spirit... shall teach you all things and bring all things to your remembrance.

Read Romans 8:9-17.

I have a friend who says he was scared to death of calling on people as part of his church’s visitation program. He would fervently hope that no one was home when he rang the doorbell and sigh with relief when he did not have to confront a stranger with the claims of Christ. When at last he realized that he could depend on the blessed Holy Spirit to speak through him (Matt. 10:20), it became a joyous experience to share his faith in the Savior.

Our Lord Jesus taught His disciples that the Holy Spirit’s ministry in believers would be to teach and to bring to their memory those things that He had said (John 14:26). Furthermore, the Spirit would guide believers into all truth and glorify God through their lives (John 16:13-14).

Remembering these key Scripture passages, form the habit of depending on the Holy Spirit. When you are under pressure, breathe a positive prayer of worship, praise, and trust: “Spirit of God, I thank You that You dwell within me and that You are guiding and controlling me this moment!” When called on to witness, whether in private conversation or in public defense of your faith, just whisper a prayer and remind the Spirit that you are depending on Him to speak through you.

Small thought here. Dependence on the Holy Spirit does not require you to be pious all day long—in fact, that is impossible. You can, however, be an effective Christian in all your relationships when you look heavenward and seek the Spirit’s blessing and guidance.
